Science Extension, Adoption and Commercialisation - 16, 17 June 2022

If people can’t find, understand or use the results of your science, then the impact of your science is significantly decreased. ‘Extension’ is the process of providing information in a way that enables people to use science outcomes to change practise. This leads to ‘adoption’ which is when practise change has actually occurred – the ultimate measure of science impact. Sometimes, extension and adoption take the form of commercialisation. Not all projects will have immediately adoptable outcomes and outputs, but it is important to build the pathways early to improve opportunities and enhance the impact of science.

What is a Sativus Workshop?

These Workshops are tailored sessions for large groups of people (> 7) to provide a high-level overview of key aspects of the Sativus GEMS professional development program. They are held over 2 half-day sessions and include interactive components to enhance the learning experience.

When is a Sativus Workshop useful?

A Sativus Workshop is useful when needing to rapidly improve a skillset in a short period of time. This Workshop is ideal for anyone working in a project management or research management role with science that aims to create change (i.e. solve a real-world problem) and needs to learn the basics of extension, adoption and commercialisation.

What value can Sativus Workshops add?

This Sativus Workshop will rapidly increase your knowledge and skills through expert instruction and team-based learning using your own science as the basis for activities. You will build skills needed to build extension and adoption pathways, including commercialisation pathways.

This Sativus Workshop will cover:

  • How to create practise change with your science
  • Building extension and adoption pathways
  • Commercialisation pathways
  • Collaboration and networking
  • Intellectual property
  • The importance of science communication for science impact

  • Two interactive, 4-hour sessions
  • Supplemented discussions and activities in smaller groups to personalise the learning experience
  • Helpful take-away resources
  • Discounted access to the Sativus Gems online courses.
